Terms & Conditions

The terms for using Shift’s website, apps, and connected services. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy and the terms of any AI provider you connect.

Effective

At a glance

  • Shift is beta software. Review its output and actions, and keep backups of important work.
  • You control which accounts, devices, apps, and information Shift may use. Only grant access you are authorised to provide.
  • The current public beta is free. Your AI provider, network, and other third-party services may charge separately.

The full details follow below.

01About these terms

These terms are between you and Jackson Liu, the New Zealand developer of Shift (“Shift”, “we”, or “us”). They cover meetshift.app, our connected services, and use of the Shift apps, including Neo, Studio, and Surf. By using these services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.

Use Shift only if you meet the applicable app age rating and any age requirements of the services you connect. If you are below the age at which you can enter a binding agreement where you live, a parent or guardian must review and agree to these terms and supervise your use.

Contact us through the support form. Information handling is described in our Privacy Policy; these terms do not replace permissions or consent that must be obtained separately.

02App licence and distribution

Subject to these terms, you may use the Mac app downloaded from meetshift.app on devices you own or are authorised to use. This is a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the software, not a transfer of ownership. You may make reasonable backup copies. Do not sell the app as your own or remove required copyright and licence notices.

For apps obtained through Apple, the Apple Standard Licensed Application EULA and applicable Apple terms govern the app licence. TestFlight’s terms also apply to TestFlight builds. These website and service terms do not replace Apple’s licence, and we are not applying a custom App Store EULA through this page. Apple’s applicable terms prevail if there is a conflict about Apple-distributed app licensing.

Third-party and open-source components remain subject to their own licences and notices. Nothing here restricts rights those licences or applicable law grant you.

03Public beta and availability

Shift is in active development. Features may be incomplete, change, fail, or become unavailable. Errors can affect files, messages, browser actions, and connected apps. Back up important work and review a task before relying on its result. A beta release is not a promise of a particular release date, performance level, or future feature.

Desktop execution and some companion features depend on an awake, connected Mac, appropriate system permissions, and working third-party services. Installing the iPhone or Watch companion does not guarantee that tasks or calls will work while devices or services are unavailable.

04Accounts and security

Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and connect only devices and services you trust. You are responsible for the access you authorise and the instructions you supply. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised account access, and revoke affected tokens or connections with the relevant provider.

Do not share credentials in feedback forms or public execution logs. We do not need your passwords or API keys to respond to a support request.

05AI output and automated actions

AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable. Inspect generated text, code, calculations, sources, and proposed actions before relying on them. Shift is not a substitute for qualified medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and it must not be relied on for emergency or safety-critical decisions.

Shift can interact with apps and websites, edit files, and carry out tasks within the permissions and rules you enable. Background agents, schedules, and automatic-reply rules can act without a separate prompt for every action. Set their scope carefully and stop or disable them when you no longer want them to run.

Do not assume that every consequential action will show a confirmation. You must have authority to access the account, share the data, send the message, or make the change you request. Review purchases, payments, public posts, and other important commitments yourself.

06AI providers, services, and costs

The current Shift public beta is free to use. AI subscriptions, API usage, cloud services you configure, network access, and purchases made on third-party websites can have separate charges. Check provider limits and billing, particularly before enabling recurring work or background agents.

You are responsible for complying with the terms of your selected AI providers, websites, and integrations. We do not guarantee their availability, pricing, compatibility, or permission to use them. Connecting a service does not make Shift its owner or imply an endorsement or partnership.

If we introduce paid Shift features, we will explain their prices and applicable terms before you choose to purchase them. These terms do not authorise us to charge you merely because you used the free beta.

07Your content and acceptable use

You retain any rights you hold in the content you provide. You authorise us and the service providers needed for your chosen features to process that content to operate those features and handle support requests, as explained in the Privacy Policy. AI-generated output may not be unique and may be subject to provider terms or other people’s rights; we do not guarantee its ownership or suitability for a particular use.

Do not use Shift for unlawful activity, fraud, harassment, spam, unauthorised surveillance, accessing someone else’s accounts, bypassing security, or infringing privacy or intellectual-property rights. Do not interfere with the service or expose other people’s information without authority. A browser or automation capability does not grant permission to use third-party content.

Feedback is optional. We may use suggestions to improve Shift without an obligation to implement them or pay compensation. This does not transfer ownership of your private workspace content.

08Stopping use and account deletion

You may stop using Shift at any time. Disable running agents and schedules, disconnect your devices and providers, and remove the app if you no longer want it. Uninstalling or signing out does not necessarily delete local files, cloud records, provider accounts, or backups.

In updated Shift builds, open Settings → Account → Delete account on iPhone or Mac, or your account settings on Apple Watch. After you confirm and deletion succeeds, your signed-in cloud account and its associated sync records are permanently deleted. The app signs you out and clears cached account and remote-sync information on that device. Local Mac documents, browser history, AI-provider keys, and independent provider accounts are not removed by this action.

If the control is unavailable in your build, you cannot sign in, or you need help deleting other information, use our support form and select “Privacy or account deletion”. We may verify account ownership. Our Privacy Policy explains retention and limits on deletion, including backups.

We may restrict or suspend connected services to address misuse, security threats, legal requirements, or serious breaches of these terms. Where practical and lawful, we will explain the reason and how to contact us. If we discontinue a service, we will give reasonable notice where possible.

09Warranties and responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, the beta and connected services are provided as available, without a promise that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every purpose. We cannot guarantee third-party services or the accuracy of AI output.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, guarantees, remedies, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable rights under New Zealand’s Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act. Any responsibility for loss is subject to those rights and applicable law. These terms do not remove our responsibility merely because an error involved AI.

10Changes, disputes, and contact

We may update these terms as the product changes. The effective date identifies this version. We will give reasonable notice of material changes through the website or app and seek agreement where required. Changes do not retrospectively remove rights you already have.

New Zealand law governs these terms, subject to mandatory protections and any right to bring a claim in your home jurisdiction. Contact us first through the support form so we can try to resolve a concern.
