Lets Shift click, type, and interact with controls in other apps.
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → Shift
Set up your workspace. Connect your AI.
Start with one useful task.
1.0.0-beta.1Build 20261013.2-arm64Download Shift, then follow the steps below.
Shift-1.0-public-beta.20261013.2-arm64.dmgThis public beta is development-signed and has not been notarized by Apple. After trying to open Shift, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about Shift, and choose Open Anyway if you trust the download. Confirm the prompt to open it.
Only approve the copy you downloaded from meetshift.app. You do not need to disable macOS security. Read Apple’s first-launch instructions.
Choose Get started in Shift, sign in or create your Shift account, and tell Shift what to call you. Next, choose an AI connection in Connect your AI.
Choose a supported provider and follow its connection steps. A Shift account does not include an AI subscription; provider limits and usage charges apply separately.
If you already use Ollama, choose it during AI setup and select an installed model. Keep Ollama running while you use that connection.
After permissions, Shift asks three short questions about your work and preferences. Review its suggestions, then take the app tour or go straight to your workspace. You can adjust these choices later in Settings.
Shift’s setup explains each permission and has an Allow button. Chat and Studio can be used without these permissions; enable the access needed for desktop interaction or voice.
Return to Shift after enabling a permission. If macOS asks you to quit and reopen the app, do that before trying a desktop task. You can revoke access in System Settings at any time.
Choose a small task with a result you can check. Here are three useful starting points.
Open Neo from the sidebar and send a message.
Help me plan tomorrow. Ask what needs doing, then suggest three priorities.
Create a document in Studio. Type the request in the document, then press Enter. Review and edit the result.
/shift Write a one-page project brief with goals, deliverables, and next steps.
Open a website, bring up Shift, and ask for guidance. This uses screen access.
Show me where to sign in on this page. Point to the control without clicking it.
Keep browsing in Surf. Open tabs and bookmarks in the same workspace. Use Ask Shift beside a page to discuss what you are reading, and check its answer against the source.
Enable the access methods you prefer in Settings: hold Command, shake your cursor, say “Hey Shift,” or use the notch. The app’s sidebar is always available while its window is open.
Use the Download again link at the top of this page. Check your browser’s Downloads list and any download approval prompt. This release requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26.2 or later.
Check that Shift is enabled in both Accessibility and Screen & System Audio Recording. If you moved or replaced the app, review the entry for your installed copy and follow any macOS restart prompt.
Open Shift’s model or AI connection settings and reconnect the provider you chose. Check the provider’s account access, available credits, or usage limits. For Ollama, make sure it is running and a model is installed. Do not include API keys or passwords in a feedback report.
Use the square Stop task control in the active chat, or press ⌘. while Shift is focused. This stops the selected task, not every background agent. Check its final state and review any changes it already made. Stopping does not undo completed actions.
The companion apps are being prepared for wider availability. Public Beta 1.0 is currently a Mac download. You can register your interest on the Other platforms page.
Include your request, what you expected, what happened, and version 1.0.0-beta.1 (build 20261013.2-arm64).
